Our Journey...

 

In 1994 William Douglas Homes founders Bill Boettner and Doug Milburn set out to create a homebuilding company focused on great service and solid construction practices with the flexibility of design to satisfy their customers' varied needs. With backgrounds and formal education in business and construction, Bill and Doug have over 70 years of combined experience in the homebuilding industry from which to draw on:

 

 Bill did his undergraduate work at Bucknell University and the University of Maryland. He subsequently acquired his M.B.A. from American University in 1981. During these years he did remodeling and renovated houses in Historic Capitol Hill. He also represented buyers and sellers as a licensed salesperson. From there Bill began working for a large national homebuilder in the Baltimore-Washington area, working up through various management positions until starting William Douglas Homes.

 

 Doug graduated with a B.S. in Construction Management from Virginia Tech in 1985. During his College years he spent his summers working for a large national builder as an Intern and Construction Technician. After graduation, Doug worked for 10 years in various sales and construction roles with that same national homebuilder.  It was during this time he and Bill forged a friendship that eventually developed into the vision for William Douglas Homes, a construction company founded on hard work, communication, and mutual respect.

 Doug and Bill want their customers to have the best possible new home experience. They work closely with each customer to learn their needs and develop plans to meet those needs. They personally manage the building process from site design, permitting, selections, scheduling and quality control/supervision. This direct communication sets them apart from most builders, as they are truly involved in the process from start to finish (not just figureheads behind a desk).

 

 They take great pride in their work, and as such choose to work with people who do likewise. Most of their contractor relationships have been developed over many years with a collaborative approach to quality homes. William Douglas Homes and all who work with them share a common goal: to build the best home they possibly can.

 

 During the process Bill and Doug meet their buyers several times to educate them about and orient them through their new home:

 

Prior to Construction- Finalize home plans and selections.

Early in Construction- Review home locations, grades and schedules.

Prior to Drywall- Show the bones of the home, along with various mechanical and construction features.

Prior to Move-In- Orientation of the home.

After Move-In- Two post-settlement reviews.
